Artists around Fiveways, Brighton, East Sussex
Brighton and Fiveways are home to many, many artists. Fiveways in particular has its own group of very well established and very well respected artists and is part of the Festival Open Houses trail each May and again at Christmas.
There are of course lots of new and emerging artists living and working in the Fiveways area too, lots of independent Open Houses during the Festival and other artists fully immersed in the community giving up time to work in the local schools. As a parent this is greatly appreciated because the children in the community get so much out of the work done with them and exposure to some of the finest artists in the UK, and of course Brighton! So make the most of the amazing artists below, living among us on our own doorsteps.

Sylph Baier, Ceramics. Sylph's hand thrown earthenware is uniquely lovely. Contemporary design available directly from Sylphs studio on Florence Road, and also outlets including the High Street Gallery, Dartmouth, Green Tree Gallery, Borde Hill Gardens, Somerset House in London and Primavera in Cambridge. Sylph is also a member of Sussex Guild and her work is sold through the Guild's shop on Southover Street in Lewes, East Sussex.

Kate Osbourne. Watercolours. I studied textile design in the 1970’s and worked in the industry for 20 years, including five years in the States, for one year living in a shack in an old coal mining town, painting wildlife and botanical subjects, and selling through a gallery in Santa Fe.
As an illustrator I have worked for various clients including London Transport, Sainsbury’s and Quarto Press. Painting has gradually taken over and I now work very freely in watercolour, with the minimum of compositional drawing, aiming to give the paintings an unpremeditated look, and attempting to express the beautiful but transitory nature of the still life and natural history subjects.
My work has been shown with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, the Society of Wildlife Artists, Brighton Open Houses, and in galleries across the UK. Kate Osbournes website.
Annelies Clarke is a painter and stained glass artist. She lives and works in Brighton, UK, where she has two studios in her home. She opens her house as an informal exhibition space once or twice a year to show her work.
Annelies latest work, shown left, is called The Unfinished Business and is oil on panel. The panels together are 2.94m wide x1.50m high.
