Bakers

At Fiveways, we are spoiled with two excellent bakers, one producing fresh bread on the premises, with queues at the weekends out of the door and along the street. And fantastic bread it is too.

Ravens Bakers, Ditchling Road, Brighton. Ravens on Ditchling Road sits at the heart of the Community and is quite possibly the ebst Bakers in Brighton. The queues for bread at the weekends are considerable so dont be late; the fresh bread baked on site on a saturday usually reaches the shop at around 11am and sells out very quickly. On Good Friday, the queues for Ravens Hot Cross buns go out of the door and down Sandgate Road for several hundred yards, often featured in the local press. The breads are also fantastic having been baked on the premises; one of the many joys of living in this area of Brighton is getting a hot loaf home and breaking it open, letting it's steam disipate and smothering a slice in butter. Try the white Danish toasted with fresh scrambled eggs, yum! The Malt Loaf also knocks spots off the mass produced versions.

It is always slightly disapointing when they go on holiday and close the shop in the summer for a couple of weeks.

Ravens also sell pasties, pies, sandwitches, cakes, biscuits, eggs and locally produced honey.
