Brighton

Quite simply, the jewel in the crown of the souh coast. Read John Betjemen for confirmation. I visited Brighton in the early 80's and it was an 'orrible place. Morriseys lyrics in 'Every day is like Sunday' when he sings 'This is the coastal town they forgot to close down' could have been written for Brighton in those times. It's come a long way....as they say. Some put it down to a man called Carden who managed to extend the towns boundaries to encompass outlying villages as they were, like Patcham; others say it was those with the foresite to open up the Kings Road arches as artists quarters on the seafront; others still say it was the bestowing of City status by HRH in 2000. Whoever is right, you would not recognise the changes achieved from derelict 80's run down town to what it is now. Come and see for yourself.

I am in the very fortunate position to live my life in this City. Having grown up in London everywhere else was, well, lacking, too sleepy, or extremely provincial and conservative. It took me some years to settle here, but now it is home. London gets into the marrow of your bones and London by the sea it is not.

Great architecture, the English Chanel and the wonderful SouthDowns to the north make Brighton ideally situated within the south east.

Low salaries, like all seaside towns, draw out a uniquely independent nature in it's businesses, many creative, arts based individuals succeed here, as do many new media companies. There is always something going on, whether it be one of the many London to Brighton runs of vintage Cars, Mini's or the Speed Trials on Madiera Drive followed by the Ace Cafe meet the following day, or try the Festivasl in May with the open houses and world class arts programme. With good boutique hotels and excellent restaurants there are no shortage of places to stay and eat, so long as you book early.

Either way, come and enjoy this fantastic town and all it has to offer.
